The training will provide participants with an increased understanding of diabetes and the services available to their patients. Training is suitable for: Enrolled Nurses, Registered Nurses, GPs, Allied Health Professionals & Pharmacists. On completion of the study day participants will be able to: - Gain understanding of the impact of diabetes for the older Australian. - Identify risk factors for diabetes, common signs and symptoms and diagnostic criteria. - Identify the types of diabetes and implications for management. - Understand blood glucose monitoring and target ranges. - Review common oral and injectable diabetes medications - Consider the impact of exercise and nutrition on blood glucose levels. - Recognise and review the management of hypoglycaemia. - Identify and the consider the impact of long term complications of diabetes on their care. - Discuss the role of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS)
