OzDAFNE Expression of Interest NSW&ACT

Type 1 diabetes
OzDAFNE takes away a lot of the guesswork involved in managing your diabetes. It gives you more freedom in your lifestyle at the same time as improving your health and your quality of life. OzDAFNE is a five-day diabetes education program for adults with type 1 diabetes which teaches you how to work out the amount of carbohydrate in your food and the right dose of insulin to take. It also teaches you how to make changes to your insulin doses when you need to, and how to manage hypoglycaemia, illness and exercise.
Upcoming programs:
The OzDAFNE program covers:
- carbohydrate counting
- insulin dose adjustment
- other topics like managing hypoglycaemia, exercise, illness, diabetes complications and goal setting.
An OzDAFNE program may suit you if:
- You have type 1 diabetes
- You are 18 years or older
- You are using pens to inject your insulin, and you take 1 or 2 injections of long acting insulin each day and quick acting insulin each time you eat
- You are willing to check your blood glucose levels at least 4 or 5 times a day
- You are prepared to adjust your own insulin doses based on what you eat, your blood glucose levels, and other factors (like exercise)
- You can attend all 5 days of the program, from 9am to 5pm each day
- You can speak, read, and understand English.
Upcoming programs:
Diabetes NSW/ACT only delivers a limited number of programs each year. Programs currently available are:
- Belconnen Monday 26 February - Friday 1 March 2024 (Currently full, but please select this option to be added to a waitlist for this program)
- Casula - Monday 6 May - Friday 10 May 2024
- North Ryde - Monday 3 June - Friday 7 June 2024
- Additional programs to be announced as available
To register your interesting in attending an OzDAFNE program, please join the waitlist where you can indicate if you are interested in one of the above programs or would prefer to join a general waitlist. Please note that unless you have registered your interest for a specific program, we will only contact those on the waitlist when a program becomes available within a 50km radius in built up residential areas, or 100-200km radius in regional and remote areas.
Please note: The OzDAFNE Website provides a guide to other centres delivering this program. We also recommend visiting https://www.dafne.org.au/find-a-centre as other providers may have availability in your area.
